A student discovers the world of supply chain
I want to thank everyone at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) Roundtable for the wonderful opportunity to be a student assistant at the 2014 Global Conference. It truly was an amazing experience, and I learned so much.
From the very first day I began to get a better grasp of how far the industry reaches. Helping at the registration area, I was checking in attendees not only from across the United States but also from other parts of the world. As I met individuals from Nigeria, Brazil, Sweden, and other countries, I better understood that supply chain management is truly global and interconnects processes and firms on both a corporate and an individual level. I am excited by the prospect of working in an industry where I can contribute to something that may have a positive effect on people across the globe! This was just the first of many learning moments.
I was able to attend a few sessions, which covered everything from leadership to alternative applications of supply chain practices to industry game-changers. I also appreciated the opportunity to see the Supply Chain Exchange and speak with so many professionals about what segments of the industry they are in and what is current in their operations.
I now have a much better understanding of the extensive breadth of the industry and have been reevaluating which specific avenue I want to pursue after graduation next year. I am also looking forward to my remaining logistics classes more than ever, as I am able to connect what I learn with how it affects the industry more clearly now.
Thank you all so very much for affording me this experience. I greatly appreciate CSCMP, the DFW Roundtable, and all the individuals who made this opportunity a reality for me. I know that in the future I will look back on the experience as a wonderful memory and as fuel for the flame of my love of logistics.
