60 years of CSCMP: We’re better together

Because of you, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2023. And because of you, we remain more energized than ever with a steadfast commitment to expanding the reach of our vision as we connect and educate the world’s supply chain professionals. 

For 60 years, we have been connecting supply chain professionals with a community of peers and thought leaders to help them meet society’s biggest challenges. Our organization has been a living testament to the following principle: Go it alone, and you solve a problem for a day. Go together, and you solve a problem for a lifetime. Why else do the finest in professional sports have multiple coaches? Collaboration is at the epicenter of solving critical problems, improving supply chain leadership skills, and supporting the life cycle of your supply chain career development. 

Your own talent and experience certainly form the foundation for your career, but to truly build competency and capability, you must learn from others. When you join and maintain membership with CSCMP, you make a bold, personally fulfilling statement: “I am working to ensure I am a relevant, competent, capable, and respectful professional.” Toward that goal, CSCMP has also spent the last 60 years educating supply chain professionals about best practices and emerging trends through our deep and expanding portfolio of content and research. Just one example of that portfolio is highlighted in this issue of CSCMP’s Supply Chain Quarterly: our “Annual State of Logistics Report.” For over three decades, this rigorous compilation of leading logistics intelligence from around the world shines a spotlight on key trends in the supply chain. 

Often, I hear senior supply chain leaders make statements like, “I wish I knew what I needed to know for the road ahead.” Our research and educational events help you learn from the decisions made and risks taken by other leading-edge organizations and tap into the methodologies and best practices developed by leading thinkers in the field. At CSCMP, we help you develop and ensure you have the tools and connections to succeed.

And we’re not slowing down. CSCMP is evolving as your needs change. We’re at 60 years today, but we’re not stopping here. We’re looking forward to 100. That’s right, our speedometer has “100 on the dash,” and we’re looking to hit that number. CSCMP will deliver 100% effort, 100% of the time, at 100 miles per hour. How about that for a platform for decades into the future? 

CSCMP’s mission is to advance the supply chain profession by connecting, educating, and developing the world’s supply chain management professionals throughout their careers. We’re expanding supply chain education opportunities, from high school students to entry-level professionals to top-tier executives by providing multiple learning pathways such as: 

• The CSCMP Transportation Center of Excellence, which provides knowledge, information, and education pertaining to all transportation modes, technologies, and regulatory issues;
• The Center for the Advancement in Talent & Training (CATT), which provides accessible supply chain career training, continuing education, and career pathways; 
• SC Pro^TM, a tiered training and certification program;
• The Executive Inner Circle, a forum for supply chain executives that allows them to share best practices and learn from world-class companies; and 
• CSCMP’s Executive Supply Chain Academy, a virtual and in-person leadership program for high-potential supply chain executives.
