The results of a new survey indicate that more than half of companies place the demand planning and forecasting function within their supply chain organizations.
LifeWork Search, a recruitment firm specializing in supply chain and procurement, recently asked managers at 110 companies where the demand planning and forecasting function resides within their organizational structures.
Fifty-two percent of survey respondents said that demand planning/forecasting was assigned to the supply chain area. Another 20 percent said sales, 9 percent said finance, and 5 percent cited marketing. The remaining 14 percent stated "other," with many specifying that the function fell under operations.
