Continuing education is important not only for personal career development but also for learning new supply chain strategies and tactics. Here are a just a few examples of upcoming professional education programs around the world.

Popular courses focus on basics, strategy

CSCMP is offering two of its most popular continuing education courses again this year. "Fundamentals of Supply Chain Management" is designed for those who are new to supply chain management or just need to review the basics. This workshop will cover such topics as transportation, warehousing, inventory management, manufacturing, procurement, and reverse logistics. Past participants have come from such leading companies as Dell, Coca-Cola, and UPS.

Need more than just the basics? "Strategic Supply Chain Management" will show participants how to collaborate more effectively with colleagues both within and outside the supply chain. Students will gain a better understanding of the supply chain's effects on other functional areas and how to communicate the supply chain's value to senior management. Concepts covered include sales and operations planning, value stream mapping, inventory management, the perfect order metric, and supply chain resilience.

Put your customer in the driver's seat

Organizing your supply chain so that it follows your customer's lead is challenging. In Georgia Tech's "Demand Driven Supply Chain Strategy" course, practitioners will learn how to fit a demand-driven supply chain into their overall business strategy.

Instructors will guide participants through rethinking their supply chain strategy to make it more customerfocused. Attendees will also participate in a simulation game that demonstrates the impact of strategic supply chain decisions. Throughout the course, they will have opportunities to assess their current supply chain strategy, formulate a new one, and discuss keys to successfully implementing it. This course is co-sponsored by CSCMP.

MSU offers intensive logistics management course

With Michigan State University's executive seminar on "Supply Chain Logistics Management," participants get a graduate-level logistics management course condensed into just six days. University professors will guide attendees through four major instructional units: "Dimensioning the Supply Chain Opportunity," "Managing the Logistics Process," "Integration, Planning, and Measurement," and "Leading in a Dynamic Environment."

In addition to daily lectures, participants will work with an interactive simulation that replicates a supply chain process, from design and procurement to manufacturing and logistics. The course also provides an opportunity to share ideas and best practices with colleagues in various industries. This course has been co-sponsored by CSCMP since 1967; members receive a discount on the US$4,495 tuition.
