The Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), the leading representative body for the lifting equipment industry worldwide, named Oliver Auston, chief innovation officer of Pure Safety Group and managing director of Checkmate Lifting and Safety, as its 2018 Manager of the Year.

The award was given by the association as part of its inaugural LEEA Awards program at the 2018 LiftEx show Nov. 14. The show is the go-to event for the lifting and safety industry, bringing together industry professionals and end-users from a wide range of vertical markets, including oil and gas, energy, road and maritime transport, construction, utilities and manufacturing.

"As this was our first annual award program, we set the bar high. Manager of the Year was one of our greatest individual honors," said Ross Moloney, CEO of LEEA. "The award recognizes LEEA member excellence and showcases the individual's contributions to the global lifting and safety industry, focusing on how their leadership has impacted their team and the industry. Oliver's leadership and innovation continues to push the industry forward."

LEEA is involved in standards setting, training, health and safety, the provision of technical and legal advice and the development of examination and licensing systems in the lifting industry. Its members are from public and private companies, including various government departments and internationally recognized professional and technical institutions.

As Chief Innovation Officer at Pure Safety Group, Auston leads research and development of fall protection, dropped objects prevention and lifting products for the global markets and manages the Checkmate company. Checkmate is the U.K.'s leading innovator, designer and manufacturer of lifting and height safety equipment with an advanced training facility. Under his leadership, Checkmate has earned more than 70 patents for its products. Auston is also a past chairperson of LEEA and remains an active board member today.

"I'm honored to be a part of the community of lifting and safety professionals who are so passionate about advancing the industry to achieve the highest standards," said Auston. "It was my pleasure to be with colleagues and celebrate how our industry continues to evolve to meet the increasingly complex needs of our markets, using significant advancement in new technologies to make products and personnel safe."
