Seattle, Washington, March 27, 2018 - AIMMS is pleased to announce the release of Center of Gravity Navigator, a new application that allows supply chain planners to identify candidate locations for their Distribution Center (DC) network using the Center of Gravity technique.
The Center of Gravity technique is a quantitative method for locating distribution facilities based on distance and the weight of demand and/or supply. Using Center of Gravity Navigator, planners can visualize their current demand and supply distribution, and then evaluate how the number of DCs in their network impact service levels and cost to meet demand.
Center of Gravity Navigator is part of AIMMS SC Navigator, a platform for self-service supply chain analytics. The App can be configured in minutes using a wizard-like approach that answers key questions around your current supply and demand distribution. Data is uploaded and can be shared across multiple functional areas, which saves time and effort.
Through powerful and seamless visualizations, users can identify low DC allocations to optimize. It's an ideal companion for AIMMS' Network Design Navigator, as the model results can then be used to carry out more detailed supply chain network design and scenario evaluation on the AIMMS platform.
"Center of Gravity Navigator is one of the many Apps we plan to release this year," says Chris Gordon, AIMMS VP & Product Lead SC Navigator. "Supply chain professionals are often frustrated with current network design technology and those that use Excel often feel like they've outgrown it. We created this App with them in mind, aiming to help make their job easier."
