Canadian logistics software provider Descartes Systems Group has acquired BestTransport.com for $11.2 million, the company said today.

Columbus, Ohio-based BestTransport is a cloud-based transportation management system (TMS) provider focused on the flatbed market. The firm offers a suite of solutions that includes everything from contract rate management to load building, shipment execution, and freight payment, the companies said. In business for more than 15 years, BestTransport serves shippers and carriers throughout North America and Europe.

"Moving goods in the flatbed market requires domain expertise and special equipment, and the associated transportation management processes have some unique characteristics," Andrew Roszko, executive vice president of global sales at Descartes, said in a statement. "BestTransport has built a great business by creating a platform that addresses these unique characteristics with solutions available for both shippers and carriers."

The acquisition follows Descartes' May purchase of New Zealand-based Core Transport Technologies, which provides global air carriers and ground handlers with shipment scanning and tracking solutions.

Descartes Systems Group is based in Waterloo, Ontario.
