Genpact acquires Barkawi in merger of consulting firms

Consulting firm Genpact said today it has acquired the German supply chain management consultancy Barkawi Management Consultants GmbH & Co. KG, saying the deal would help it serve clients in the consumer packaged goods, industrial manufacturing, and high-tech industries.

New York-based Genpact said the deal will allow it to expand its menu of professional services, adding capabilities in consulting and digital technology capabilities for supply chain management and aftermarket services. Founded as a business unit of industrial giant General Electric Co., Genpact was spun off in 2005 and reported 2016 revenue of $2.57 billion.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mike Landry, who has been president of Barkawi North America, will now lead the integrated Genpact global supply chain business from Barkawi's offices in Atlanta. Andreas Baader, Wolfgang Schürholz, and Oliver Bendig will continue to lead the European business, based in Munich, Germany.

Genpact made the acquisition as part of its strategy to drive digital-led transformation along with digitally enabled intelligent operations for supply chain transformation, the company said. That sector is critical for driving growth in many enterprises because companies need agile operations that quickly respond to fluctuating demand levels, market changes, and increased supply chain complexity, Genpact said.

Munich-based Barkawi Management Consultants specializes in providing both strategic and operational supply chain management services, including areas like supply chain strategy design and execution, demand planning, supply planning, sales and operations planning, distribution strategy, and design, the firm says.

Following the sale of the Barkawi Management Consultants division, company founders Karim and Carena Barkawi will focus on the other portfolio companies of the Barkawi Group, which include the technology startups ClearOps, star/trac, Teqport, and Servify.
