CSCMP launches Supply Chain Professionals Day

The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) has designated the third Monday in May as Supply Chain Professionals Day, an annual event that is intended to celebrate the range of jobs and professionals that contribute to today's supply chain industry.

The event this year will fall on May 21 and will serve to celebrate the contributions to the global economy that are made by supply chain professionals, who often remain behind the scenes and miss out on recognition for their efforts, according to the CSCMP.

The annual event is conceived as a way to appreciate the accomplishments of supply chain professionals, much as National Truck Driver Appreciation Week and National Healthcare Supply Chain Week honor specialists in other parts of the sector, CSCMP said.

In order to recognize this "growing and evolving discipline," CSCMP will celebrate Supply Chain Professionals Day throughout the month through a program of professional discounts and online spotlights.

The group is asking supply chain professionals to show off "the faces of supply chain" by posting photos of themselves and their colleagues on websites and social media, highlighting them with the hashtags #ThisIsSupplyChain and #CSCMP. Contributors can also tag each photo with the area of supply chain that they specialize in, such as #warehousing, #procurement, #operations, #IT, #logistics, or #transportation.

Supply Chain Professionals Day has also been accepted for listing in Chase's Calendar of Events 2019, a publication that compiles commemorative days, weeks, and months spanning from historical anniversaries to astronomical phenomena, sporting events, religious festivals, and carnivals.

CSCMP announced the event on April 9.
