Zebra Technologies recently set out to better understand how manufacturers, retailers, and logistics firms are preparing to meet the growing needs of today's on-demand economy—with an eye toward finding out how they feel about omnichannel logistics. The company revealed some of the findings during Modex 2018.

Highlights include:

  • Nearly 90 percent of respondents say e-commerce is driving the need for faster delivery, spiking concern and investment;
  • More than half (55 percent) say they use pen and paper to manage omnichannel logistics;
  • and 61 percent say automation is disrupting the industry.

When asked to characterize their omnichannel strategy, 58 percent say they have an omnichannel plan "in process," 39 percent say they are operating at an omnichannel level, and 3 percent say they have no omnichannel plans in place at all.

Zebra's Future of Fulfillment Vision Study was conducted among more than 2,700 professionals in transportation and logistics, retail, and manufacturing firms across the U.S., Canada, South America, Europe, and Asia.
