The consulting and analyst company SCM World has released a list of the finalists for its 2017 Power of the Profession Awards. These awards seek to recognize companies that demonstrated both exceptional supply chain performance in the past 12 months and a socially responsible mission. SCM World will be handing out the awards in two categories—Talent Breakthrough and Supply Chain Breakthrough—during its annual conference in Miami, Florida, USA, in January.

"Our finalists have demonstrated that there is a continued commitment and dedication to advancing the future of supply chain as a discipline," said Oliver Sloane, CEO of SCM World, in a statement. "They are also companies at the forefront of investing in their people and developing the capabilities and confidence to get the job done."

The finalists for the Talent Breakthrough category were selected based on their performance in three key areas: diversity and engagement, business results, and impact in or across the value chain. They include:

  • Consumer packaged goods (CPG) company The Clorox Co. for its Integrated Global Talent Development Model
  • Dealer Tire, which helps automobile companies implement and manage tire programs at their dealerships, for its focus on retaining and recruiting women in the supply chain
  • The chocolate manufacturer The Hershey Co., which has sought to transform its supply chain through diversity
  • Hilti Inc., a Liechtenstein-based construction product company, for its "High Performing Team and Entrepreneurship" program
  • The managed-care consortium Kaiser Permanente for its efforts to create a work structure that helps women prosper
  • Syngenta AG, a Swiss agribusiness, which has focused on developing talent to support a modern supply chain

The Supply Chain Breakthrough category recognizes companies that have launched strategic initiatives that have delivered value to customers and shareholders while demonstrating a commitment to addressing such critical issues as health, hunger, and environmental sustainability. The finalists are:

  • Bayer AG, a German chemical and pharmaceutical company, for "Supply Chain Integrated Planning (SCIP) leads the way to a digitalized business platform"
  • The Colgate Palmolive Co., a CPG giant, for "Driving efficiency and effectiveness with global supply chain shared services"
  • Personal and health-care product company Kimberly-Clark Corp. for "Trash talks"
  • CPG giant General Mills Inc. for "Creating shared value through the trifecta of 'securing supply, supporting growth, and saving the world'"
  • Mondel?z International Inc., a food and beverage company, for "Supply chain reinvention: Imagine if ..."
  • The broadband telecommunications company Verizon Communications Inc. for "Supply chain transformation: Building and executing an integrated supply chain strategy"

More than 50 companies submitted over 70 submissions for this year's awards.
