CSCMP EDGE conference to offer three facility tours

Comment
Conference attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Atlanta Community Food Bank, a Home Depot fulfillment center, and a Kroger distribution center.

One of the most popular hands-on activities offered every year at the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals' (CSCMP) annual supply chain conference is the local facility tours. This year's CSCMP EDGE conference will continue this tradition by offering three tours in the Atlanta area hosted by the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Home Depot, and Kroger.

The facility tours offer an inside look at a local supply chain in action and are typically led by company employees.

The Atlanta Community Food Bank tour will provide an overview of the nonprofit organization's supply chain operations and community outreach activities. The food bank provides more than 60 million meals to individuals in 29 counties across northern Georgia. The tour will emphasize how the food bank's success depends on key supply chain functional skills. It will also provide an understanding of how the food supply chain can help reduce food insecurity and hunger.

The tour of Home Depot's Atlanta direct fulfillment distribution center (DC) will show how the home-improvement giant processes order and handles e-commerce operations for its direct-to-consumer supply chain. This 1.1-million-square-foot DC serves customers in 48 states and features new warehouse management and material handling systems.

Conference attendees who are interested in seeing "the warehouse of the future" should consider signing up for the tour of the grocery store chain Kroger's Atlanta distribution center. This facility is fully automated from receiving to shipping, including storage, picking, depalletizing, and palletizing of store orders.

Advance registration is required for all tours. Facility tours and schedules are subject to change. For more information, visit the conference website.
